You are right, the reverse sleeve is a bit big and tight, and we are depending on wear of the brass. Oil change is a good idea. Another thought I have is to lower the idle, and perhaps less load on the gears would make it easier. It's easy to shift forward, reverse, neutral when the engine is off, the trouble begins when the trany has a load. My concern at this point is for the cable, as it may get stressed beyond it's limits.

    Thanks

No knowledge, but I'd sure suggest frequent oil changes as it sounds like he is depending upon metal wear to achieve the proper fit. I suspect he made a part to big, but why only in reverse? It is hard to both get in AND out of reverse?

        Hi all,

Just an update on the transmission situation I wrote about last month. Took the trany out and brought it to the expert here in miami. It needed some new parts made, replaced a gear lining (which was some kind of rubber/asbestos type of material) with brass. Difficult job, but a success. Today I tested it, and it works, but it is difficult to get it out of reverse, takes a strain on the cable/rod. Forward is perfect, no problems. The expert says that it will wear down a little and work better after some use. Any suggestions, tips, or anyone have a similar experience? I am afraid .that the cable may snap or something. Has anyone had that experience? How much stress do those cables handle?

Thanks so much for all your input.

        Regards,
        Margie
