Well Sam, I don't know if it's proper or not to do this...but I had the
exact same problem as you are having. Some of the hoses are remarkably hard
to get onto barbed fittings.
I have an electric heat gun (you know for paint stripping). I ~carefully~
heated the hose and it slipped over like a hot knife through butter. Once
cooled it seems to be every bit as hard and stiff as it was before.
I'm not saying it was a good thing to do. In fact, I have no idea if I
screwed up the hose. All I know is it has been fine for 2 years + and my
hands don't hurt.
Something to consider if you don't get better answers from someone more
knowledgable.
