    Must be the MS type made by Volvo.
    It's a mechanical transmission, so called "velvet drive"
    A broken axis inside, which decides when neutral or forward,
    must be the reason.
    You have to dismantle (by an experienced technician) the gear
    and repair or buy a reconditioned one.
    Try volvo-penta parts at internet. I have the MD11C with the same gear
    and i replace it with a reconditioned one 6-7 years ago
