OK, so if it isn't hydraulic, there should be a big
lever on the side of the trans that connects to the
cable from the cockpit shift lever. Yes?
Try pulling on that lever on the side of the
transmission while it is slipping, and see if it
tightens up and starts working. If so it could just
be a cable adjustment.
Failing that, there is likely an adjustment inside the
transmission itself -- need to remove the top cover to
get at it. Also need a service manual for it.
If you have verified that the fluid is up to level,
then there really isn't much more I can think of to
suggest without your finding out the make and model of
transmission, and getting a service manual.
There should be a metal tag somewhere on the side of
the transmission that contains the make, model,
serial, etc.
This isn't a V-drive, is it?
