    Lee,
    Assuming your electric bilge pump is a "Rule" or of similar design, it has a
    strainer for large particles in the base. You do not want to add a filter
    which could hamper the ability of the pump. Also, you do not want to put
    anything like a check valve in the discharge line which could reduce the
    pumps capacity. I would suggest that you forget about filter boxes and
    install another thru-hull for the shower sump.

    As far as you manual bilge pump, the piping as you describe should work OK.
