I have a 4-108. I worked for years to get its temperature down. I
changed the thermostat which is under the expansion tank. You have to
drain the system and remove the expansion tank (gasket involved) at the
top aft end of the engine. There are variations in the 4108, so what
I'm saying could be different on yours.
I put in a rehabbed heat exchanger - cylindrical item on forward end of
engine. Mine has a zinc in this cylinder.
I rebuilt the seawater pump. Checked the exhaust system. I checked and
changed the prop pitch. I don't remember how I figured out that I had a
restricted flow in that the output of the block was routed through the
hot water tank and then into to heat exchanger. The hose had to step
down to do this. There are separate ports on the block for the hot
water tank. I implemented these ports with new hoses and put in a large
hose from the block to the heat exchanger and it vastly improved my
situation. Even so it runs very hot at high speed, I watch the
temperature all the time.
I have a second outboard expansion tank in my system. Any of the items
I mentioned above are potential causes.
4108 manuals and parts are easy to find via google.
