I used exactly that approach to insulate my hanging lockers and avoid the
ice on the sleeves of my shirts and jackets that occurred where they
contacted the hull in the locker. I used vertical firring strips and placed
polyurethane foam between the strijps; then I covered the foam with a cedar
tongue-in-groove ceiling. That was 25 years ago and it still looks and
works great. Those were the only parts of the hull I could access without
tearing out headliners and ceilings, so I never did the rest of the boat.
