Instead of flames, how about an intelligent discussion
of the merits of paper charts vs electronic...
What works for me is both.
I do route planning for the GPS using computer charts, and have the paper
charts (Chartbook) on the chart table in the wheelhouse when underway to follow
our progress and confirm our positon.
I started out using only paper, taking waypoints off with dividers and
pencil/yellow pad, then entering data character by character on the Garmin 12.
Using the computer electronic charts to do this is much easier, faster,
eliminates transcription errors, and leaves a permenant file of every route which
can be used again when travelling the same route (and shared with others),
something we often do.
