Glenn,
Batelco is dial-up.
It's amazing how many people front up to Batelco and hook up, spend 40 mins
talking to AOL and then get pissed when presented with a huge bill. A lot of
North Americans don't understand the concept of being in another country and
being subject to international calling rates. Or, apparently, not asking
the cost
of a service before using it.
The way around this is to sign up with Batelco for their internet package.
I think
it was around $20 for 2-3 months of access. For this you get unlimited access
and more mail box addresses. This worked for us.
The Batelco connection is made in closed booths in George Town. In other
places it may be a wire hanging out the service window or a wire hanging out
the equipment rack in the battery room.
Spanish Wells Batelco just refused to play. Don't know why, possibly connected
to the fact the telephone book has about five surnames listed for the hundreds
of people living there.
