It varies by island, Batelco is usually the last choice (expensive & unreliable). Nassau has a $.10/min internet cafe on Bay St. Internet is generally avail at each island, Rock Sound,Eleuthera it is the Bakery, Black Point, Exumas it is Lorraine's Restaurant. Georgetown, Exuma people were unhappy to use Batelco. Abacos have a variety of places and a wireless operator, at least they did before Hurricane Jeanne.
Many cruisers use Pocketmail for e.mail, but this requires gong to a land phone but possibly might work on a cell phone. Sailmail on SSB radio is popular, but requires $3500 of equipment. Globalstar phones are $100/month for 400 min.

Subject: lv-ab: Internet in the Bahamas?
Someone was saying recently that in the Bahamas one could take their notebook ashore and use a Batelco internet hookup. I have a couple questions:
1) how available are they?
2) what type of access...dial-up, wireless or ethernet?
Glenn.
