Hi, Mike!
Last year, I installed soundproofing in Candide's engine room. We used a product from Soundown (http://www.soundown.com/) that is called "quilted lead fiberglass." Basically, it consists of a vinyl cover, followed by 1" thick fiberglass insulation, a sheet of lead (I ordered 1 lb. lead per square foot, but you can get up to 2 lb. lead per square foot), followed by another 1" of fiberglass, and finally another vinyl cover.
It has reduced the noise of the engine SIGNIFICANTLY! Everybody who's been on board BEFORE and then AFTER the installation of this product have commented on the muted noise from the engine. I highly recommend it!
I have no idea about its heat/flame resistance...but the folks at Soundown were very helpful in answering my questions. I bet they'll be happy to answer your's as well.
Sincerely,
-Robert Doty
