Lee, I think Bonaire "probably" avoided most of the impact from Francis and
now Ivan. The ABC's are just off the northern coast of Venezuela and as
such just far enough south of the normal hurricane breeding grounds. I know
a bunch of folks who routinely cruise to the ABCs and/or Venezuela in
mid-late August just to avoid hurricane damage.
Of course that's just statistically correct and there are occasional storms
which defy the "normal" hurricane logic and Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao have
been hammered from time to time. But it's rare and in this particular case
I think they dodged these last couple of bullets.
