    no, No, NO, Norm.

The question (as I remember) related to the water to use for pickling your watermaker, not for topping up batteries.
They use raw salt water all the time so with the pickling chemicals sitting in it, there is no need to purchase distilled water just to pickle a watermaker, or even use the RO product water. Like I said, once you put those pickling chemicles in the water nothing will survive.

Salt water would be disasterous for topping up a battery.
Pure RO water would also be quite OK for a battery.
Shore water only in an absolute emergency.

    Regards,

    Andina Marie Foster,

Yes, although product water is best and distilled would be (expensive)
second best, by the time you add those pickling chemicals you could use piss

        many times.

Yes you can use it to top off the batteries.

Measured this morning with handheld TDS (Total Dissoslved Solids) meter.

Tank water, combination of shore water and RO water = 102

      12VDC Spectra watermaker, after running 15 minutes=172

      Supermarket distilled water=zero

I can't believe Andina acutally used "filtered raw seawater many times" to top off her batteries.

Wouldn't the saltwater cause the batteries to self-discharge quickly and completely ruin them?
