I recommend a battery meter that shows amp hours removed/replaced from the
battery bank. Running the Diesel every several days might not do it, the
only way to tell is with the meter, or careful calculations from a digital
volt meter. There are so many variables: battery size & condition,
connection quality, alternator size, type of regulator (The internals don't
give full charge for very long), then the amperage and hours run of each
piece of gear. Without the meter, you just don't have much info to go on.

I have lived on house batteries since 1997, and I have an amp hour meter.
I have learned that my AH meter, an E-Meter, is only an convenient
approximation and has sometimes has been wildly inaccurate. The best indication of
state of charge is testing the specific gravity with a hydrometer.
