Hello All,
We have been living aboard our Nauticat 36 for a little while now. We have
taken her to the Florida Keys and to the Bahamas and home to Toronto,
Canada. We are going to extend our live aboard experince by staying
on for a Canadian winter.
Not wanting to re-invent the wheel, I'd like to ask those who winter aboard
in snow and ice a few questions.
1- Can one install temporary hull insulation? i.e. something that can be laid
over finished teak panelling for example.
2- I understand that some recommend elevating the cushions/mattress on
garden lattice to create an air space and cut down on mildew.
3- What form of under floor/bilge heating works?
4 - What is the merit on stringing 100W incandescent lamps through the
various under floor spaces?
5- We have a water-cooled Sea Frost fridge. How do we stop the water path
including the compressor succumbing to freezing?
6- Are through hull fittings such as sink drains an issue if left open?
7- Any forseeable problems in using the Head holding tank system, provided
we can find a pump out method?
8- Head options if holding tank can't be used?
9- Any issues with running the Espar for long periods?
10- How about pressure water system?
11- Has anyone tried using the heating systems designed to stop ice build
up on rooftops and eaves around water system elements on boats?
12- We normally shrink wrap the boat to protect the teak decks and I intend
to cover the boat while aboard. Is there a DIY method for in water cover?
Thanks for now
Geoff
