To my mind there are three characteristics of a refrigeration system that
    ought to be considered.
    1. The quality of the insulation system. (Energy expenditure for maintenance
of the temperature difference. This is important for long term storage.)
    2. The rate at which heat can be transferred from inside the container to
outside. (How long will it take to cool a couple of 12 pacs of Bud from 85F
    to say 40F)
    3. Efficiency of the heat transfer system. (How much energy is required out
of your batteries to transfer the heat out of the beer.)

Since refrigeration is an important topic for cruising and since this is not
my area of expertise, I will learn how to specify these parameters properly
and present my findings to the list. If someone on the list already knows
how to filter out the marketing hype and get to the beef, please jump in.

After all a good thermos can maintain the temperature differential up to 24
hours with minimal leakage and zero energy expenditure. (Practically
speaking, 12V X 18AH per day might be as good as the insulation system gets
for a 125F temperature difference and certain volume, or maybe it can be
better. I will find out and let you know.) I submitted some questions to
    Engel, waiting for their reply.

By the way, the cooler ought to be placed at least in the shade or better
yet somewhere in the bilge. If the temperature in the shade is 125F, head
360 or 180 and keep going. Also, zero F may be too cold for the freezer.
Does anyone know the ideal temperatures for the freezer and the refer ?
    (15F, 40F ?)

    Cheers,

    Ahmet
