Interesting to see, after checking the archives, that the posting has
reached 336 for the month, and the month is not over yet.
That is higher than any month since October of 2003 and the single
handed/insurance subject is the reason at over 60 posts on the subject.
Coast Guard licensing contributed also.
So for those of you who stay away from the heated debates or just don't have
an opinion on the subjects at hand, this kind of exchange is what keeps the
list alive. To me there is nothing worse than checking my email and
wondering if the list has died, when there are no posts for the day or the
posts are "Is something wrong" "I Haven't received any posts" "Is something
wrong with my computer" etc. etc.
In these heated debates, some contributors come away with bumps and bruises,
and in my case I have my share. It is interesting to watch how the list
seems to regroup and carry on after. I can say that I learn each time it
happens...especially if I get involved. This time, I have gained knowledge
of several members personal feelings, philosophies and an inside on what
they are having to deal with in their life. For me, the list becomes more
personal and not just a place to stop in and ask a dumb question I could
find in the archives or by doing a Google search.
To those who elect to sit it out and not get bruised, I suggest that you
jump in and express your views. There is no right or wrong with opinions,
only opinions. I really enjoy the variety of views and find that mine can
be improved when I participate.
Check out the archives http://www.irbs.com/lists/live-aboard/ and you
see that the list has fallen off as far as posting goes for the past year
and even more since 2001 when we were really talking the talk.
I feel at home here and hope we all continue to basically police ourselves
and CONTRIBUTE so that the list will grow and continue to be the most
interesting place to be for live aboards and wannabes.
