      || Yes you could do deliveries as crew but, with some
      || experience, you could get paid to deliver a boat if you
      || have your license.

    Actually, there is no LEGAL requirement for a delivery captain to be
    licensed on the size boats generally being discussed here. You'd only
    need a license to carry passengers for hire in the US.

      || Also, I believe a lot of insurance companies (Al Golden,
      || do you want to jump in here?) offer discounts on premiums
      || with a CG license.

    That's true, though whether it's enough of a discount to make it
    worthwhile is questionable.

      || Another reason is strictly subjective. It's a good reality
      || check on one's own skills and knowledge of navigation,
      || rules of the road, etc...

    That's true!

      || The last reason is that when you're chartering somewhere
      || (B.V.I., etc..) things go more smoothly when you can
      || present a license as part of your CV or experience list.

    Possibly...

    Finally, the old wives tale that having a license makes you "more
    liable" is just plain nonsense. In fact, just the opposite may be true.
    We've seen collision cases where one operator was licensed, and a
    greater weight seemed to be given to his testimony than to the other
    party. Most companies CREDIT the liability premium as well as the hull
    premium for licensed captains.
