The best thing I've used to date for zippers on dodgers is simple candle
wax. You should be using nylon zippers on your canvas, Not metal. One other
thing, clean and waterproof your dodger with it ON the boat! I've seen more
than a few nicely cleaned and treated Dodgers that were just a bit too small
to go back on! always clean ant treat your canvas with it mounted in it's
    final position!

The 303 High Tech Fabric Guard is what Sunbrella recommends. The
West Marine Waterproofing with Teflon worked well for me. I haven't
    tried the 303.

Sam, glad to hear you made it through without too many hassles. I haven't
heard from a friend of mine in Port Charlotte yet so I'm a little concerned.
They just moved from Melbourne to Port Charlotte to a nice home on a canal
so they could keep their 37 foot cutter behind the house. I believe they
moved the boat across about two weeks ago.

Anyway, to your questions, there's a tube of stuff available at West
Marine - I forget what it's called but it worked real well on the zippers on
my dodger and bimini. It's just like a large Chapstick with similar
consistency but a little softer. Just run it up and down the teeth of the
zippers and it should last the season. At least it has with my stuff.

As long as the canvas is off the boat I'd spray it with waterproofing on
your front lawn (or whatever). That was you don't have to worry about
overspray going where you don't want it, like on the deck. I used some
    called (I think) 303????

Maybe someone else on the list can chime in with brand names. There was an
article in PS a few years ago which tested various spray cans for their
efficacy on Sunbrella. This was the stuff deemed to work the best plus it
    was what Sunbrella recommended.

    > No problems here, just a lot of high winds and a bit of stress. But it
passed just north of us so we made it through okay. Not so lucky for those
in Punta Gorda and Orlando. This one was strong but pretty compact so the
real bad stuff was confined to a pretty narrow corridor. My only concern is
that a lot of people that thought they were going to get hit and then were
spared, now think that the preparations were not necessary. That may make
things worse next time. I hope everyone stays vigilant even though we were
    lucky this time.

    > Anyway, now that it is over, I might as well do some much needed
maintenance now that things are all torn down. So, here is my first set of
questions. When I took the canvas down, I was surprised at how frozen the
zippers were. I managed to get them opened but I would like to avoid that
in the future. What can I use to lubricate the zippers and how often should
I reapply? Second, what do I use to waterproof the bimini and dodger? Is
it easier to do off the boat or after I put them back up?
