Our boat is a very solidly built 37,000 lbs. Surely a steel hull
would weigh closer to what we are?

We once backed out of a slip (on our first trip down the ICW) where we
had looked at the wind but had failed to take current into account and
in addition, someone tried to help us. The boat got swept down onto
the end of the line of slips. In the ensuing melee, I heard someone
yelling at Bob not to get his arm in between the boat and the piling,
but he did. Fortunately no damage to his arm, although he had a small
round scraped hole in the center of his forehead afterwards which he
didn't know how it had happened.

In this case, although there was no damage to any of the boats, I
doubt we would have been able to get out by ourselves without help.

We were going to raft up to someone at the Dismal Swamp Visitor's
Center, and the guy riding with us tried to jump from our deck to the
deck of the boat we were rafting to -- and missed. He didn't fall
into the water, but he landed his chest pretty heavily on their toe
rail and was severely bruised. He didn't do any jumping after that,
at least not off our boat.
