lv-ab: Inverters... pure sine or modified?

I'm planning on installing a inverter on my boat before the winter, between
2500 and 3000w, to cut down on genset hours during the winter (i've already
put on 800 hours on the genset in just under a year :-( ). In south florida
summer I have no choice because of the A/C but from nov thru april / may, I
like fresh air when on the hook. I plan on adding a dedicated bank of
batteries for the inverter which I charge with the genset in in the morning
    as needed.

there is a significant price difference between pure sine and modified sine
so I'm tempted to go with modified... no fancy gizmos on board... the
inverter will just power the home size fridge/freezer, couple of
TVs/satelite receiver/DVD (no fancy plasma screens...), lights (no dimmers),
    microwave, notebook power supply...

or am i better off with pure sine?
