    Round wire will work OK for the ground wire. They do recommend a flat strip
    but I'm fairly sure the difference is quite minor.

    The desired screen characteristics are purely mechanical to avoid corrosion
    and for ease of installation. If it is thoroughly sealed in epoxy or
    fiberglass a fly screen mesh is OK but it will deteriorate quickly if not
    thoroughly sealed. If you can get a heavier mesh then do so - again for
    mechanical stability. The grid size and shape of the wire is not important.

    Round wires do not "disappear". That is wrong.

    Yes, if you are using a copper mesh to couple to the seawater it MUST be
    below water line for best results. The mesh above the waterline adds very
    little additional grounding if any.

    You don't need capacitors in the ground circuit but the SSB should have its
    own ground lead going as directly as possible to the mesh.
