Good as any I know. Don't drop the drill. <g> In my experience, this type of project can get real frustrating real fast, so approach with much Zen. You might investigate how you're going to re-install the fittings before you start. I haven't done this exact thing; I think there are SS rivets, but your Home Depot rivet tool probably won't install them. Aluminum is too weak and corrodes fast, steel rivets will corrode. Also figure out what happens if you screw up the hole. Are there extra large rivets? Maybe drill another hole in a different place (extra hard through SS on a curved surface) or use extra large SS screws in existing hole?
Now's the time to bed real well, with good big strong back plate. If you really want to do it right, bore your holes in deck to 1/2", coat inside of hole with epoxy, fill hole with same epoxy thickened to peanut butter (piece of tape covers bottom of hole); leave top just slightly hollow. When set hard, redrill small hole for mounting fixture. This saves your deck from leaks (you'll still get wet if the fixture leaks, but the deck won't rot). Use plenty bedding compound, mask off mount fixture to make clean up easier.
