Norm,
I've read your many knowledgeable postings regarding a multiplicity of
things and would appreciate comments on... my desire to make a welding
hood/mask/helmet/etc/ [hereafter hood/&Co.] and another that can be used
for fiberglass work, both of which having some sort of remotely pumped
air source into/out-of said enclosure, i.e. hood/&Co.
I anticipate being able to safely use said air source for working with a
variety of chemicals such as resins, paint, etc. by means of the clean
remote air source.
That is, I'd like to be able to swap the welding hood/&Co. and
substitute a positive pressured head enclosure for fiberglass work, etc..
What I envision is possibly some sort of pump with an intake hose laying
away from the immediate work site, say 25,50 or 100' and then run an
input hose into a personally worn hood/&Co., creating positive air
pressure in the worn protective cover; and, said hood/&Co. would have a
simple one way valve for inhalation/exhalation each separately and
reversed, of course.
Since these activities, i.e. welding, fiberglassing, painting, etc.
would be done on land or at least near a/c power, I guess an electric
air pump of some sort might be the way to go.
My specific question(s) is/are:
1-what pump, brand, size would you consider, given that it might be
desirable to source the air from 50-100' away
2-what type & size hose would you use, given the maximum probable
pumping distance
3-what fiberglass/paint hood/&Co. would you suggest [I don't want
filtered air but fresh remote air w/positive pressure in the enclosure]
4-any thoughts on a welding hood/&Co. and valves & hose connections.
Also, recommendations on sealing the hood/mask/helmet/etc around the
head/face would be appreciated.
I hope my presumption in such a summary request is not offensive and
that whatever portions you choose to ignore will be responded to by
others possibly, for I know you are fully occupied with your sailings.
Fresh breezes, even when welding & glassing :-)
Cordially,
Courtney Thomas
