Most single lever controls have a method for advancing the throttle without
engaging the transmission. Not knowing the model and make, You usually have
to either push in a button at the base of the lever or pull the lever out a
bit to make this adjustment. It depends on your controls.

The only negative item we have is if one of the engines is having

you don't get much increase without the transmission engaging.
I was lucky to happen across a Morse single lever control that has a small
lever opposite the main lever that independently controls the throttle. If
you want the model I will look it up.
