We had insurance through West for the past 6 years. This year, we had
the same experience as Tim....informed re: change of insurance carriers
(it was our understanding that the change is because of the Boat U.S.
acquisition, and that the two programs would be handled by the same
carrier), and a significant increase in premium, accompanied by a
significant DECREASE in policy features. Like Tim, we tend not to
question, but this was way too much for way too little.

Fortunately, we are eligible for USAA insurance, and got an excellent
policy through them. Another company we tried is Progressive, which is
apparently quite competitive for boat insurance.

    Good luck Tim!!!

    Tim,

If I remember correctly the only part of BOAT/US which was sold to West
Marine was their retail operations, the stores, catalogue, etc. I
    believe
that BOAT/US retained their insurance programs just a West Marine
    retained theirs.

The think the net result is that BOAT/US is now just their legislative
lobbying operation and their vessel insurance program. And they also
maintain their financial grant programs, as before.
