    Hi All,
I hate rivets. They start out OK but then they get
looser and looser. They will make the hole they are
installed in get bigger. They will eventually need to be
removed, and when you get your drill on the job they
    will spin.
I say forget rivets. There are all sorts of
alternatives. There are captive nuts you install into
the opposite (the material you are attaching TO)
material then use screws. There are heli-coil inserts
you thread into that material, then use screws. there
are self-tapping screws. All of these methods work. If
the screw gets loose you TIGHTEN it. Much easier and
quicker. Not as cheap as rivets but I seem to recall
that us 'listers' are a little more concerned with
quality and lifespan of repairs than saving 10 bucks on
repairing the boom. Maybe I'm wrong...
