Yes, great idea - we used a sit on top kayak as our dinghy for the last 2
yrs. during our
3 week summer vacation & it worked fine.
We didn't want to tow ours when in exposed waters, so to save space on deck,
we bought an inflatable kayak. When not in use we partially deflate and
stow on deck, and when fully deflated it fits into one of our cockpit
storage lockers. Ours is a 2-person "hybrid" inflatable made by
FeatherCraft in Canada. It is very stable, and with the optional skeg it
tracks well. We used it to transport ourselves and gear between the boat &
the dock, and found it was a great way to tour a new harbor, or explore all
those interesting but shoal areas we couldn't reach with our 5 ft. draft.
