Back when airplanes were made of aluminum vice composites we prepped the
aluminum and coated it with chromic acid, followed by a coat of zinc
chromate primer and then nitrocellulose or acrylic lacquer. I would expect
that a good prep and chromic acid followed by a good epoxy primer and the
finish of choice would give good results. If you use a two part urethane
coating buy the best respirator you can afford and lots of organic vapor
filter cartridges. And remember respirators need to be properly fitted to
provide protection. And that iisocyanates kill people.
