using this type of media is less abrasive but also generate less heat which can cause damage to the metal. it's the prefered way of blasting in classic car circles.... should apply to masts too...

Subject: lv-ab: Aluminum Mast
Hi. I am just finishing a 36' steel pilot house for launch this spring. I found a used aluminum mast that looks in good shape but with peeling paint in some places and quite solidly attached in others. I talked with a sand blast outfit who advised they would blast the paint off using "glass beads" which is less abrasive than sand. Has anyone heard of this method? Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks. Gary
