The problem only arises if the potobal water loses pressure. There must be
a manual or electric valve on the head so if someone were to flush when the
pressure was gone, there is the possibility for reverse flow, especially if
another faucet were open and gravity feed caused air to be sucked in at the
head.
On Bandersnatch we simply unscrew the shower head from the shower hose and
use that to flush the head. Since we both take showers at the same time putting
the shower head on and off of the hose is only a once-a-day thing.
It has the advantage of us being able to put a finger over the end of the
hose where the water comes out and choking down the opening creating a strong,
concentrated, stream of water capable of blasting the bowl clean. This works
much better than a gentle flow of water sliding down the bowl from the openings
under the rim.
