I agree with everything, but the above statement.
I just finished testing 2 high end Dell laptops, one had a
3.2 ghz HT Pentium 512mg ram, 60gig HD
and the other had a 1.4ghz Pentium m.512megs ram and a 60gig 7200rpm HD
The Pentium mobile was very handicapped for during
any processor intensive operation. I loaded it up with graphics
processing and also did some light video editing.
The touch pad would actually become completely dysfunctional
when the processor load was extreme.
If you have to do desktop type functions with the laptop, stay away from the
mobile processors and make sure you get a 7200rpm HD.
Incidentally, I returned both Dells because neither one met my expectations
and they both had terrible sounding speakers.
I think the 3.2ghz. Pentium would have worked out if it had the 7200rpm
HD, but that wasn't available from the Costco.com offering.
I highly recommend the Costco.com service, they give you a 6 month
unconditional guarantee on PC stuff.
I ended up with a wide screen Toshiba Satellite from costco, it was
less $$ than the dells and the performance is much better.
It also has Harmon Kardon speakers which sound about as good as it can
get from a laptop.
