Concerning fuel pickup tube length and distance off the bottom of the tank.
One thing I did not see mentioned in the discussion was the fact a genset
pickup tube should stop higher up than the main engine pick up tube.
This is specified for two reasons.
First of all it means the genset will run out of fuel while still leaving
something in the tank for the main engine.
That way you get a last warning before running out of fuel even f your tank
gauge is not working.
Secondly, while many companies do provide adequate to excellent fuel
filtering for the main engine, few if any genset manufacturers provide the
same level of filtering and protection against water pickup.
Having the genset pickup[ stop short of the bottom ensures you have less
fuels p[problems with the genset.
The above also explains why they recommend not to tap into the main engine
pickup line even if that line is of sufficient size to feed both genset and
engine at the same time.
