A few weeks ago I outlined a way to patch a tank by using an oval hole and
oval cover plates. There was a leaking fitting and the skipper wanted to seal
it. The tank was poly, almost impossible to glue to.
My suggestion was to cut an oval hole in the tank, removing the bad spot, and
then seal it using two oval plates, larger than the hole, with gaskets, held
together with a bolt sealed with an o-ring. The inside oval plate is inserted
sideways and pulled tight by the outside oval plate. You could do something
similar using two bolts and a threaded hole for a pipe fitting in the middle
of the plates.
