I need to add a fuel pick-up tube to an existing fiberglass tank.
I've searched the Internet but I can't find a supplier for such an item.
Can anyone recommend a supplier?
Also, any recommendations on the best method for installing the pick-up
tube?
Cobble it up yourself.
It is absolutely imperative that you suck the fuel for the lowest point in
the tank to keep water/glop from accumulating in the tank.
Anything less will result in a dragon sleeping in the tank waiting to awaken
and eat you (overwhelming your fuel filters) at the most dangerous moment.
One suggestion is to use a copper pipe compression fitting on the top of the
tank. This will allow you to lower the tube down until it contacts the bottom
of the tank. Cut the bottom of the tube at a bit of an angle and lower it
until it touches the tank bottom and then a sixteenth of an inch up.
An even better way, if you can remove or otherwise get at the bottom of the
tank, is to provide a threaded boss or flange on the bottom of the tank. You
then screw a short nipple and other pipe fittings there that collects any and
all crap that settles to the bottom of the tank and delivers it to the primary
fuel filter where it can be removed from the fuel circuit.
There are other considerations to building the trouble-free fuel system.
Look up "Bandersnatch's Fuel System" in the archives.
