Thanks to all of you who responded to my question. You've given me much to
ponder and research.
BTW I should have thought a little more about my criteria. I would have
added 'Must use diesel'. I had many years experience with a Kawasaki 1400
portable gas unit, and this time around am hoping to avoid the aggravations
associated with gas and air cooling, admittedly at higher expense. But you
can't take it with you.
While searching the web for info on DC Gensets I found an Australian product
that mentioned a point I hadn't even thought about - running the hot water
heater using the heated water from the genset. Since my Yanmar is seawater
cooled I have very low expectations for it heating water while underway.
Assuming the Genset motor uses an intercooler is it practical to switch the
water heater lines over to that? Has anybody done this? (of course I could
just run the heater off 110V, but I like the idea of free energy)
Thanks again.
