I agree with Lew, that on a boat this size, a genset may take more onboard
resources (space, free time, peace) than any value it delivers in return. For
cooling try 8 to 10 12volt fans in strategic places for a year, maybe with an
"over-hatch" AC unit using shorepower, and then think about it again.

Too many people seem to think Air Conditioning is an all or nothing
proposition.
When size and cost are a consideration, compromises are in order.
Insulation is relatively low cost and will go a long way towards lessening
the heat load in a cabin.
A shade awning over the deck also reduces the heat pickup further.
The remaining heat and humidity can often be handled by a much smaller unit
than conventional thinking dictates.
Mermaid is a Fort Meyers Florida company which specializes in providing high
efficiency A/C units that are intended to run directly from an inverter.
Now add a compact DC genset and a high efficiency inverter with all the smarts
to prevent problems interfacing with shore power polarity reversals etc and
you have a viable system that can be nearly bullet proof.
Of course, you won't get it for $199.95 but then again you get what you pay
for.
