     writes:

MY thought is to purchase an external aerial. The problem is, it looks like
the aerial and the data cable both need the same port in the cell phone. Are
there digital cell phones with a separate aerial port or data port. Or does
    someone make a splitter?

I have heard, but not tried, that instead of connecting the external antenna
to the cell phone, just leave the below-deck lead near the cell phone with a
few inches of the shield peeled back, there might be an optimum length, and
loosely coupled to the cell phone antenna.

Verizon, who's my current provider appears to be clueless. Their solution was
to set the cell phone on deck. OK!! But I'm planning on doing this 12 months
a year at 40 degrees + north. As I look out my window it occurs to me it snows
and rains around here. not real friendly to lay a cell phone in.
You might also consider a data card. Verizon has a card that plugs into your
laptop to do data on their system. It costs about $250 and has an antenna,
and does data at about 50K if you have coverage in your area. I believe they
have an unlimited use plan for $80/month. This would leave the cell phone for
voice. A neighbor has a similar setup with Nextel rather than Verizon because
they cover St Augustine for 50K data while Verizon does not.

You might also contact the folks who sell the KISS wind generators. They
operate their business from their boat. WWW.svhotwired.com, I think.
