Looking at Norm's post about finding deep water if you're aground....
I have one of those wireless depth sounders that you can tie to your fishing
pole. It looks like a little green submarine and is about 2" long by 1"
wide. You can cast it with your fishing pole pretty darn far... when it hits
the water it turns on and transmits the depth back to the portable
fishfinder. As you retrieve it, it'll show the bottom contour. VERY useful
for finding the deep water when gunkholing, running around in the dink,
casting off the front of the boat as you're entering a shallow area, etc.
It's a Humminbird, so you can look them up on their site. Mine has a display
that is portable, and about the same size as a regular display. They also
make one that has a wristwatch display. Pretty cool!
