I don't have info on delivery etc., however....

I had my boat trucked (33'7", draws 5'8") up to northern Ches. Bay from VA, so you might want to investigate that part further also -- I used a company called KenTech Marine (also frequently used by Chesapeake Maritime Museum):

    Kentech Marine Boat Transport
    Intersection 291 & 301
    Millington, MD 21651
    410-928-5221

I have to say that although I can't vouch for the co. beyond my own experience, I was very happy with the care the owner of Kentech (who did the move) took with my boat. It had recently had a paint job so I was a little nervous, but all went perfectly. I did spend quite some time making sure the mast was properly secured to the boat, and followed all his recommendations in preparation.

He is located in the northern part of the Bay so that makes it a bit easier for him to coordinate pickup and delivery with other jobs, which can save $. If he can't do it due to what it draws, he may know someone who can.

There are a lot of boat delivery services up here and in the Annpolis area so you might want to investigate -- although be very careful with the contract... one fellow actually wanted me to sign that I would pay for any damage to or breakdown by his vehicle en route! Needless to say, I gave him a wide berth!

Anyway, not to get your hopes up but there might be a trucking solution regardless of what the broker says.

    Best of luck!

Hi, all. I'm just about to make the move to become a real liveaboard. I'm beginning to make offers.

My first boat to consider is a Morgan 426, but my broker tells me because it draws 6 feet, I have to have it delivered by a delivery Capt.. because it can't be shipped by truck.

The boat is in St. Pete and needs to go to the northern Chesapeake. Any body have any idea how long a delivery captain would take to sail that far and how much it would cost? Also anyone know of a good surveyor in Tampa area they can recommend. Someone who will not only point out what needs to be done, but give some advice on how to do it.

Getting back to the main question. How can I get this boat to the Chesapeake and how much will it cost. Also when does the delivery season begin?

      Thanks
      Bill Wright
