Halon is now not permitted in engine rooms in the EU due to its
environmental impact. There are a range of substitutes on the market here,
but from the end of this month, boats need to replace halon in the engine
rooms.
On the other hand, leisure vessels don't have to have any fire extinguisher
by law.
