Halon, which supports life for enough time to escape, has been replaced by two functionally similar chemicals. One supports life and the other (cheaper) one doesn't. They are found in any decent marine catalog.
In addition, a bulkier solution has been with us for some time, CO2, which not only suppresses fire, but also chokes off run away diesels.
