I recently saw a product made by 3M that is promoted to be applied to
glass windows to make them damage resistant. Its called 3M
Scotchshield Storm and Safety Window Film. You can see the specs at:

    http://www.sunkingwt.com/ultra.html

They advertise it as able to make glass 3 times stronger and to be
available in tints for heat and glare reduction. They advertise it as
the strongest safety film on the market and adding an additional
barrier that makes glass stronger, and that even if it breaks, it
prevents flying glass or water from entering a home.

A sister ship of ours uses additional heavy clear storm windows (some
heavy plastic material) that are screwed over the original windows to
    shield them.

Anyone have any experience using the Scotchshield it in the past? We
are wondering about its use on our Pilot House windows to improve their
strength and to get glare and tint protection. Sounds like a product
where it might have some crossover marine benefits!
