    The weight of a gallon of water depends on whether you are using a US
    or Imperial gallon and whether or not it's salt or fresh. The
    imperial gallon is 4.54 litres, the US is 3.8, salt water weighs, if
    I remember my scuba course material correctly, about 12 lbs per
    imperial gallon, which would make it about 10 lbs per US gallon.
