(refitting a 1973 41' Gulfstar ketch)
1) well, it seems the folks who stepped the mast did so without putting
any sort of a flange at the base - i was assuming there would be
something akin to a port (without the glass ;-) that the mast would
project through (it's keel-stepped) and the mast boot would be attached
to teh mast at the top (of the boot, tht it) and to this flange at teh
bottom. What are my options? I'm assuming that
a) it wont be easy to find the oginal (or equivalent) flange/part that
should have been used.
b) i need something (besides the deck) at the base of the mast to attach
the bottom of the mast boot to
c) in order to install <whatever> without re-stepping the mast, it'll
have to be in 2 halves.....
2) i was cleaning out the chain locker, fore lockers (all of them
really, but...) and when I was done scrubbing them down i figured i'd
just slosh the soapy/dirty water into the chain locker since it drains
into the locker beneath the forward V berth, which drains on one side
into the bottom of the hanging locker opposite the forward head, which
drains into the locker under the forward part of the settee/1/4 berth
which drains into the rear locker under the 1/4 berth, which (finally)
drains into the bilge. At teh time I thought the forward locker under
the V berth drained into the bilge. But NO, water came pouring out of
the base of the forward Vberth locker at the floorline, across the floor
and into the (open at the time) bilge. Turns out the same is true for
all the forward locker spaces..... So, any hints on getting them sealed
at the floor and draiing into the bilge?
thanks again for all the great hints!
