When I re-read this, I think I didn't make it real clear. Put the line
THROUGH the tubing, making a bowline loop with the tubing on the loop
    portion.

A couple of further ideas I picked up on my trip down:

    A. Get a piece of 1" or 1-1/2" clear plastic tubing about 4' long. Tie it
into a bowline knot for looping the floating bollards. This made it much
easier for my wife to accomplish.

    B. Get (2) furniture dollies (the wooden frame with casters), affix (2)
small fenders to the "tops". Put lines to one side of the frame, long
enough to tie off on your topsides. Before entering the locks, drop them
over the side, with wheels out, fenders against your boat, tie them off.
When you come into the lock, allow the boat to gently ease up to the wall,
let the wheels do the rest. The wheels can be cleaned fairly easily, the
fenders and the boat never see the wall. I was afraid the wheels would get
"stuck" in the cracks of the cement walls. Our friends that used this
system said it never happened for them. They swore by the idea, had
    traveled the entire "loop".

I took a 45' single engine Roughwater with bow thruster alone from Iuka, MS
to Pensacola Florida last fall. 500 plus miles and 12 locks.

    I found the following handy;

    1. large fenders fore and aft on both sides in a position to rapidly deploy
    for the locks
    2. mid ships cleat on each side
    3. stiff piece of stiff 3/8" line with which you can form a large stiff
bight you can loop over the floating bollards when they are available
    4. portable vhf with belt clip, headset and boom mike with vox for
conversing with lockmaster while handling lines
    5. small delta anchor with 150' of line in a bag for stern anchor in creeks
    without swinging room
    5. alarm clock for early morning departures when next anchorage is far away
    6. Slimfast bars for easy meals at the wheel
    7. 1 quart wide mouth jar

I kept in mind that this is a pleasure craft. If I got up in the morning and
the conditions or forecast didn't sound pleasurable, I stayed where I was.

    Hope you have fun1
