Village Marine ripped me of to the tune of $350 for a "Lifetime Guaranteed"
titanium high pressure pump head that they ruined by putting a brass plug in an
unused high pressure port. Their rationale was that the money was for the
"internal parts" of the ruined pump head.
The actual watermaker has been a PITA almost from day one.
Another example is that the membranes are non standard - you can buy
replacements only from Village Marine.
They charge $15 for their prefilter elements, I buy them elsewhere for $3.65.
The design of the rig makes it impossible to get at all the hose clamps to
stop leaks. I actually have to remove the pressure vessels to get at the guts
of the machine.
There was no automatic shut down to prevent cavitation of the high pressure
pump. The sensing switch was there, but the software ignored it.
I could go on. Perhaps the machine you are looking at will not have
problems. Perhaps they will not rip you off. You might get lucky.
I suggest you look up SK Watermaker in Florida, tell them what you want to do
and ask their advice. I think they have a web site, if you can't find them,
let me know.
