    Two things...new radars with their 'sleep mode' and a laptop as display with 'hibernate' can make running radar all the time do-able power-wise on a small boat, and a marine radar detector uses only 40ma and can see the other vessels radar (if he has it on) at about twice the distance he could see you, (if he was looking). It has a LOUD alarm. Neither solution is perfect. I belive lights on boats are important, but not the whole answer.-Ken
