    Andina,

I had thought about something like that until a friend suggested an in-line
check valve immediately downstream of the bilge pump. I installed one two
years ago. Instead of 15' or more of hose with the accompanying volume of
backflow draining back into the bilge now I only get about a tablespoon
worth of water draining back after the pump shuts off.

I know there are a lot of folks who don't like the concept of a check valve
in the bilge hose but it's worked well for me. As far as your concept of the
new turn-off delay switch I'm not sure of it's potential advantage over a
check-valve. I'm curious about one point though. Without revealing any
proprietary secrets how do you get the pump to run for 60 sec without any
battery drain? Unless it includes some sort of tiny self-contained battery
which powers it and then gets re-charged when the pump is drawing amps while
    the float switch is engaged.
