I have very little experience with glass over wood.
However, I do know that wood has a lot of expansion and contraction as
temperature, and especially humidity, changes, while glass has very little. I
believe this is what causes delamination. Then water wicks in between the wood and
the fiberglas layers and rots the wood.
I had a neighbor in a marina once who had a wood boat and had covered his
deck with dynel/epoxy. Dynel is a synthetic fabric with much more flexibility
than Fiberglas. Epoxy also has much more flexibility than polyester. He said
that the dynel/epoxy coating was sucessful and that except for a couple of
minor spots he had no delamination.
You might try contacting a company in St Petersburg FL that sells a wide
range of resins, cloths and associated material. I don't have the name at my
fingertips but it was something like Fiberglass Coatings Inc. Perhaps some list
members could help.
